The plant ranges from 5 to 20cm in height and the stem is unbranched, usually with one or two white/reddish flowers. The leaves are thin and form a rosette around the stem. Chickweed Wintergreen (Trientalis europaea), best seen in June and July. Also known as the Arctic Starflower, it grows in woodlands in the north of England and Scotland. Its common name is misleading - it is neither a chickweed nor a wintergreen, but a member of the primrose family. Here is is growing in Curr Woods, near Dulnain Bridge in Speyside.
