The Roman bridge south of Piercebridge, North Yorkshire. The River Tees then ran south of its current channel. The large blocks were probably scattered in a flood, and very likely some would be used as building material after the bridge collapsed. The Roman road which crossed the Tees here was Dere Street, which ran from York past the fort at Piercebridge to the Antonine Wall in central Scotland.

Here you can see a bridge abutment made of stone, which formed a solid base for the wooden bridge superstructure. The Roman road which crossed the Tees here was Dere Street, which ran from York past the fort at Piercebridge to the Antonine Wall in central Scotland.

CE Palmar standing by Creag nan Uamh (Crag of the Caves) the caves in a limestone cliff, about 200 ft. above Allt nan Uamh - a tributary of the Loanan, near Inchnadamph, Assynt. Scanned from a slide taken by CE Palmar. Bones of brown bear, reindeer, lynx, arctic fox, wolf, and the skull of a polar bear have been identified dating back beyond the last ice age and the preceding two interglacial periods (middle and late Devensian) over 45,000 years ago. As one of the few limestone districts in Scotland, this valley is extremely popular with cavers. The Bone Caves themselves do not extend far into the hillside, but the entrance to the longest cave system in Scotland, the Uamh an Claonaite, is nearby. The caves are now an SSSI.

The iron age wheelhouse at Kilpheder, South Uist. The walls stood at their original height and for nearly two thousand years, the house was very well preserved under the South Uist machair. The wheelhouse was excavated in the mid 20th century. Once the sand was removed, much of the structure crumbled away. Today, very little of the original structure remains. Tiree - Vaul, Salum, Caolas and Gunna Sound
Remains of the Dun Mor (Dùn Mòr) broch at Vaul, Tiree, built in the first century AD as an emergency refuge, with a double wall 25 to 30 feet high, inside which was a staircase. It is thought that the occupants came from southern England and ruled the local people. In later years the ruins were used to make a farmhouse.
