Intellectual Property Rights and use of pictures:
Photographs are all the copyright of David Palmar, photoscot.co.uk, and are not free.
Permission is granted to use only the small thumbnails for personal educational use only, without further enquiry, by pupils and teachers, provided an acknowledgement is made of the source, and no profit accrues from their use. It would be nice to hear about any such uses by email please.
For any other use of pictures, please enquire by email.
Stock Photograph Sales - the image library:
- reasonable rates for high resolution digital files on CD or by email attachment, especially to charities (e.g. £15 for a one-off use of modest size)
- These photographs can be up to 25 megapixels in size, suitable for a wall poster
- image thumbnails sent on request by email
- commercial price depends on size and usage of photographs (e.g. £30 for a quarter page, £40 per half page, or £60 per full page or £100 for a front cover) in a magazine; a small picture for a website might be £15)
- See index page for location of most pictures and the developing species and topic list for an alphabetical index to pictures
- Please email me if you are interested in buying a digital copy of a picture. At the moment there is no automatic shopping cart facility, although it is being worked on, and with any luck this should happen within a few months.
- Please quote the number (if it exists) and name of the picture which appears when you hover your mouse over the picture in Internet Explorer or most other browsers)
- Please state:
- the size at which the image is to be printed
- the intended use, for example whether it's for an advert, a website, a front cover, a charitable organisation
- how many copies will be printed
- what format you would like the image in - e.g. large tif (which because of the large file size would need to be on on a CD) or small or medium-sized jpg (by email attachment), and if you want Adobe RGB or S-RGB.
Other products and services offered (see links to pages or details below) are:
- greetings cards of wildlife and scenery - any picture is available as a greetings card to retail outlets in large quantities at reasonable prices to allow for the usual retail margin, or directly from this website in small quantities on request by email. Retail price from photoscot any 5 cards for £6, plus postage, available at about 10 days notice to allow for printing. It may take longer at busy times.
- talks - £30 for a talk of an hour to an hour and a half - see talks page
- photography walks - £15 per head - see walks page

There are also two framed panoramas of Millport, and some including PS Waverley, at Millport and at Tighnabruaich..

Photo Scanning
If you have old negatives, slides or prints, which you want scanned into tifs or jpegs, I can do this given a period of time. A reasonable charge per slide scan, depending on the quality (more pixels per inch takes longer to scan and therefore costs more). My film scanner can cope with up to 4000 dpi, but few people will need or want that high a resolution. You may have to wait a little longer, but charges will generally be less than those charged by high street shops or professional labs. I now have a new scanner, which can cope with film bigger than 35mm. See separate scanning page for details.
Photographic Advice
I can come to your house or go out in the field with you, and help you to get the best from your camera. Charges by negotiation, depending on what advice you want, and for how long. For the last three years, I have given in-service training to staff and student teachers on how to use digital cameras. Why not come on a photography walk, (8 walks in the last two years around the Glasgow area) or get a group together and ask for a photography walk to be organised?
Sensor Cleaning Service
If you have dust on your digital SLR sensor, first try the advice on the FAQ page. If you still have a problem, and you live near Glasgow, Scotland, please email me at the address page, and I will arrange for a modest charge to clean your sensor for you, after obtaining a signature from you that you agree to this service at your own risk. I will try the least risky methods first!
Computer Advice
If you have a computer problem, I can come to your house and help you to get the best from your computer. Charges by negotiation, depending on what advice you want, and for how long, but are based on a £10 call-out charge, then £10 per hour.
I have taught Computing since 1990, so I should be able to answer most of your questions, or know how to find out! I can travel within Central Scotland to do computer training. I am currently teaching school children ICT from Primary 6 to S2, and Computing from S3 to S6, and have enhanced disclosure from Disclosure Scotland, so I can tutor children as well as adults.
Amongst advice services I have given recently to customers are:
- how best to understand and work with the operating system (usually Windows, but I also have Mac and Unix experience).
- how to use aspects of Photoshop
- recommending a slide scanner, and an internet connection
- discussing upgrading to a new computer system, including how to specify a new computer system on-line, and compare it with one bought locally
- fixing problems for people who don't fully understand their computer system.
- backing up data on to a CD or an external hard drive, and removing the backup off site and storing it safely for people in my fireproof safe - see the page of advice on how not to lose your data.
- writing simple instructions for doing tasks (such as copying or backing up data, and scanning slides and filing the resulting pictures) which are needed infrequently enough that people forget how to do them.
Please do not expect me to install software unless you hold a licence for that software.
Photography Commissions
If there is anything you want photographs of, please let me know, and we will try to make an arrangement to take some pictures. Rates by negotiation, depending on the intended use, and what format the pictures are needed in.
Website Construction
I can do simple website construction at a modest cost. I don't have time to build dynamic websites, but if it's simple html you want, with tables, image maps and pictures, I can do that. Prices based on a minimum of £100 for a simple site, or £10 per hour, i.e. if one simple page takes an hour to create, it works out at £10 per normal-sized page, or more for longer pages. After that initial cost, there is also the question of how much design and other services (e.g. scanning. liaising with other people), are needed, also costed at £10 per hour. The cost of a domain name and web space may have to be added - I can obtain that if you want me to, or you you can obtain these yourself. Also, if you want the web site to be maintained, I will have to charge for that, although it needen't be very much if there isn't much to do!
