Like many other farmland birds, Yellowhammers have declined as farming has become more intensive and efficient, and there is much less seed left on the ground.

Swift (Apus apus) in flight, taken at Cholsey in Oxfordshire by David Palmar. Swift wings are much longer than the tail which is gently forked. The tail also lacks the tail streamers which would be characteristic of a Swallow (Hirundo rustica).
